Contrarian Business Lessons From Craig Hall

 In Turnaround investment

Craig Hall the CEO of Hall Financial in Texas is one of the countries saviest contrarian investors. His book “News of My Death Was Greatly Exaggerated” which was published over 20 years ago, is a roadmap for businessman who find themselves in a workout. During the 80s Mr. Hall was one of the countries largest owners of apartments through numerous investment partnerships. The book details how he not only navigated the Texas real estate crash but how he emotionally handled the enormous stress that was brought upon him. I read the book once a year to remind me how important it is to be well capitalized to survive the inevitable downturns that occur in business. The book does a wonderful job of describing what a modern day depression looks like. The Texas real estate crash of the 80s was significantly worse than our current real estate downturn.
The wisdom of Mr.Hall is also available from a you tube video that covers a lecture he gave at the Haas School of Business. I recently discovered the video and wanted to share this wonderful lecture with my readers. Enjoy The Lecture

Bruce, I return the compliment, I like what you are doing here. I particularly like your context as described in your dedication, your mission statement above. Keep up the good work, shedding light where few dare to go. A challenge, you have much more to say, write more often, be the leader you are. I shall read halls book and report back to you my impressions.
